Rice dishes in general are basic components in the Brazilian meal. They are simply prepared and their versions are uncountable.

Chop the medium onion. |

Peel and mine the cloves garlic. |

Rinse rice in a strainer under cold running water |
|

Place a large saucepan with oil over slow flame to heat. |

Sauté onion and garlic in oil for 2 to 3 minutes or before garlic browns. |

Place rice with fried onion and garlic. Stir thoroughly until rice is coated with oil. |

Fry rice for 3 to 5 minutes, keeping the stir. |

Add water and salt. Parboil. |

Lower the heat to medium. |

Cook rice, covered, for 15 to 20 minutes. |

When all the water is absorbed, remove from heat. |

 |
Fluff with a fork then serve the tender rice hot. |
If water is totally absorbed before rice is well-cooked, add more water as necessary and simmer till done.
If you seek a better tangy taste, try adding chopped tomatoes when adding the rice.
Some cooks prefer this dish with coconut flavor. To prepare this dish in this way, boil 2 c. rice together with 4 c. coconut milk and some salt to taste. When liquid is absorbed, decorate with fresh chopped parsley and serve.
