Kunafa is available at special shops specialized in the sale of kunafa and atayif.

Prepare two identical shallow oven pans |

Place kunafa in pot over very slow fire, add 1 cup of butter, and keep stirring (with two wooden spoons) to avoid its sticking to bottom of pot and to allow air and butter steep into all places. |

Fry the raisins until puff, then add to the mixed nuts, the cinnamon and nutmeg. |

Grease a tray, then spread a thin layer (about 1 cm thick)of kunafa at bottom. |

Top evenly with the nut mixture, then cover with the rest. |

Wet the palm of your hand to press down. |

 |
Melt the remaining butter and spill over the tray, leaving aside half the quantity. |

Place in the middle of low oven and simmer, till top becomes brown in color. |

Transfer onto other tray, top with the rest of the butter, and get once more to oven. |

When both sides are brown, remove from oven and saturate with cold sugar syrup. |
|
Another version to prepare this dish is to use sweet white sauce. You can use 2 cups of sweet white sauce instead of the mixed nuts. |
