Kashata
Widely prepared by households throughout East Africa, Kashata is a wonderful treat for a perfect holiday time.

 |
To prepare 20 balls of Kashata, you need: |

 |
unsalted peanuts, chopped into tiny pieces |
|
 |
2/3 c. sugar |
|
 |
1/2 tsp. cinnamon |
|
 |
1/2 lb grated coconut |
|

 |
Place sugar in a pan over heat for about 10 to 15 minutes until melted, or until dark-brown in color and syrupy in consistency. Stirring constantly. |

Add cinnamon and the coconut or peanuts and mix well. |

Simmer for about 2 minutes. When sugar has become golden, remove from the heat and allow to cool. |

 |
When cooled, shape1-inch balls with your hands and place on wax paper until set. |
