Holiday Fruit Bread
A common smell all through the streets of Austria during holidays is that of cookies, cakes, sweet breads, and other pastries. This dish can be served either as a dessert or a light snack.

To prepare 1 loaf of Holiday Fruit Bread, you need: |

1 c. chopped nuts |
|
 |
1 c. chopped prunes |
|
 |
1 c. diced dates or figs |
|
 |
1 c. raisins |
|
 |
3 c. flour |
|
 |
2/3c. brown sugar |
|
 |
3 tsp. baking powder |
|
 |
2 tsp. baking soda |
|
 |
1/4 tsp. salt |
|
 |
2 c. buttermilk |
|
|
|
You can use walnuts, almonds,
hazelnuts, or another kind of nut. |

Bring oven to 350°F heat. |

Make a mixture of flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. |

Add buttermilk little by little until you get smooth dough you can easily work with. |

Add nuts and fruits. Mix well. |

 |
Butter and dust flour on a 10-inch bread pan. |
|
 |
Put batter into the pan and bake for 38 to 45 minutes. |
|
 |
When done, remove from oven and allow to cool. Serve. |
