Fruit Compote


Kompot is a thick sweet traditional drink in Eastern European countries, especially in Ukraine, Poland, and Bosnia. It is a fruit drink usually served as a dessert or snack. Households usually present this lovely sweet in tall glasses with spoons for scooping up the fruit at the bottom.
المقادير
1 lb. fruit  
6 c. water  
1/2 c. to 2 c. sugar  
1 whole cinnamon stick  
1/8 tsp. nutmeg  
طريقه التحضير
Wash fruit thoroughly in cold water and chop into mouthful pieces.
Discard undesired pits or inedible seeds.
Put fruit into in a large kettle and add 6 c. water then boil over high heat.
Reduce heat to low, add some sugar as desired. Blend well.
Cover and cook for 20 to 25 minutes.
Stir in cinnamon stick and nutmeg and cook for extra 10 minutes. Then remove cinnamon stick.
Serve Fruit Compote either hot or chilled. (chilling time is 1 to 2 hours).
When adding sugar to fruit, put sugar sparingly. Depending on the combination of fruits you have used, you may want to add more sugar. But, be careful that if kompot tastes sweet when hot, it will taste even sweeter when cold.
