Instead of candied cherries, you can use assorted candied fruit, cut in

Place raisins in hot water in a bowl until soften, then strain. Leave aside. |

Shake cherries in a bag with a little flour. Leave aside. |

Put yeast in a glass cup and allow to dissolve in warm water with 1 tbsp. sugar. |

Put milk in a saucepan over low heat and add shortening stirring well. |

Allow to cool for 15 minutes then pour into a big mixing bowl. |

Add sugar, salt, and ground cardamom to milk and shortening mixture. Keep stirring. |

Add a cup of flour and stir. Add another and keep stirring. |

Add yeast, sugar, and water mixture then mix with a spoon. |

Add a cup of flour and stir. Add another and keep stirring. |

Add candied fruit, raisins, and chopped almonds and blend well. |

Add remaining flour gradually and keep stirring. |

Knead dough onto a floured board. |

Place dough in a warm place (about 80ºF) for about 1 hour to allow it become double in size. |

Punch down the dough with your fist. Cut into 2 equal sections. |

Knead well and form round loaves then transfer onto cookie sheets. |
|

Cover with a damp cloth and place in a warm place for about 25 to 30 minutes. |

Bring oven to 350ºF heat. |
|
 |
Place them onto oven for 30 to 35 minutes. |
|
 |
After done, the tops of loaves have a golden brown color |
|
 |
Drip glaze onto loaves after they cool, then serve. |
